Full school reconstruction, including BIM, Revit and Thermal modelling

Meopham School is a secondary school in Meopham, Kent, which underwent a complete reconstruction to develop a major new and modern facility for children's education.


Meopham School is a secondary school in Kent. Housing approximately 950 students, the school is no-selective and therefore caters for a wide ability range of students. Focusing on mainstream educational curriculum, the school delivers both pastoral and academic progress and personal success through a traditional curriculum and a focus on the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science.

The design team at Walker Mower undertook a wide range of design services on the Meopham project and saw it right through from its concept to its final construction. The project demanded a lot of intricate attention to detail, ensuring that all services were designed and installed both efficiently and in accordance with the relevant building standards for schools and educational facilities. Walker Mower's BIM modelling was carried out throughout the school, including the courtyard and halls. Walker Mower carried out extensive thermal modelling and daylight calculations on the building too, in order to present accurate findings of lighting levels throughout the development. All in all, the project took a little over a year to see through to the end, with the finished product taxing high praise from all involved. Today, Meopham School still looks and functions as good as it did during construction, and the school are hoping for further construction on its expansive site to cater for more students in the future.

Meopham School was rated "Outstanding" by Ofsted, the schools governing body, in February 2019. Students from the school were also chosen to form part of the "guard of honour" for athletes at the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics, displaying artistic creations made by the school to celebrate the event.
